A Bohemia user reports on Dread forum that they have received their missing funds and praises the administrators’ “hard work”. Reaction to this announcement and the subsequent implementation of the Bohemia administrators’ plan has been mixed. The administrators claim that this incident, combined with the recent price increase of Bitcoin, led to an “extremely difficult” situation that made it more difficult to process withdrawals. To give an indication of its size, there were a little over 26k listings on the Bohemia dark web market last year, placed by almost one thousand vendors. Department of Justice, the U.K.’s National Crime Agency, Germany’s Federal Criminal Police and others, investigators claim to have “mapped the entire infrastructure of Bohemia and Cannabia market in 2023.”
While the takedown of these major dark web markets is a significant victory for law enforcement agencies, it is not the end of illegal online activities. The Dutch police, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies from Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States, have successfully taken down two of the world’s largest dark web marketplaces, Bohemia and Cannabia. With the recent closure of major marketplaces including AlphaBay, ASAP, and Tor2Door, Bohemia took pole position as the one of the most popular dark web markets and attracted an influx of new users. Obviously, users feel more anxious about using such markets, not to mention escrow services.
The police determined that the sites carried out approximately 67,000 transactions per month, with a record business volume of 12 million euros reached in September 2023. An exit scam to flee with 10 million euros in illegal sales, that's how they captured the two main people responsible for Bohemia and Cannabia The arrests came after an investigation that opened in 2022 and saw Dutch Police identify servers related to the souks in the Netherlands. Learn how to protect cloud workloads, control access, and meet compliance requirements — without slowing innovation. "The man advertised his service on his own Telegram channels and thematic communities, as well as on a world-famous IT resource, where he positioned himself as a project developer and found like-minded people," the agency said.

Dutch police arrested and seized assets related to the Bohemia market and its sister market Cannabia. The arrests of the Bohemia administrators are part of a global effort to stop cybercrime. As of September 2023, the marketplace was processing around 67,000 transactions for a total of 12 million € every month. Bohemia, an emerging darknet market, provides an intuitive and user-friendly layout, supporting both Bitcoin (BTC) and Monero (XMR) for transactions. Bohemia, often referred to as one of the longest-running dark web markets, served around 82,000 ads globally every day.
The disruption started when one of Bohemia’s developers allegedly went rogue, causing service disruptions and an exit scam. The operation, which started in late 2022, came to a dramatic conclusion as several arrests were made, and millions of euros in assets were seized. Instead, the most common listing classifications are guides, tutorials, and carding. ASAP was the biggest market by listing volume so it left a big gap to fill. The site also had a sister market dedicated solely to cannabis products. The Bohemia market had a few known managers, without disclosing their real names, but nicknames only.

“This historic international seizure of firearms, deadly drugs, and illegal funds will save lives,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi. Operation RapTor was a global, coordinated effort by law enforcement in the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia to disrupt fentanyl and opioid trafficking, as well as the sales of other illicit goods and services, on the darknet, or dark web. As with any other marketplace, customers of Bohemia Market can use the standard escrow service to buy and sell items on the darknet.

McDonald operated under the monikers “Malachai Johnson,” “SouthSideOxy,” and “JefeDeMichoacan.” McDonald created, monitored, and maintained the darknet vendor profiles, including by updating drug listings and shipment options, tracking drug orders, and offloading Monero cryptocurrency received as drug deal payments into cryptocurrency wallets that McDonald controlled. According to court documents and statements made in court, these three prolific darknet vendors were collectively responsible for fulfilling over 13,000 drug orders shipped throughout the United States, ranging in size from user quantities, e.g., 5 pills, to “reseller” quantities, e.g., 10,000 pills. The court record also shows that Ta communicated with Srinivasan about drug orders, obtained fentanyl-laced pills and methamphetamine from sources of supply, stored those drugs in his residence, and mailed out packages with drugs to customers who had ordered them from Srinivasan on the “redlightlabs” account. According to court documents and statements made in court, Srinivasan and Ta used the “redlightlabs” darknet account to advertise and sell counterfeit M30 oxycodone pills containing fentanyl and other illicit drugs.
When the admins "exit scammed" and split the money members had deposited to the platform, the police traced the amounts and identified the administrators. In total, the Dutch police (Politie) and partners in Ireland, the UK, and the US seized over 8 million euros ($8.77M) worth of cryptocurrency from the two administrators. Indeed, the purpose of the post is clearly to win back customers to the market, as well as the administrators outlining their “plan moving forward”.
Parsarad was also indicted by a federal grand jury in the Northern District of Ohio on drug trafficking charges related to the illegal business he ran on the dark web. The market focuses primarily on drug listings but also offers a substantial selection of digital items. Despite its smaller size, Bohemia boasts a decent product selection from vendors servicing regions like the EU, UK, US, and Canada. The affordable vendor bond of $200 and waived bonds for established vendors with good reputations make it an attractive option for both new and experienced vendors. Since its launch in June 2021, the platform has been actively addressing user concerns on darknet forums like Dread. This includes drugs, fake documents, hacked accounts, weapons, hacking software, stolen data and more. Once Tor is set up, users can search for a current Bohemia Market address and go through an anonymous registration process.

Nemesis Market Seized In German-Led International Enforcement Operation
The police allege that the sites were trafficking in illicit products, including drugs (mainly cannabis) and DDOS tools, and described them as “the largest and oldest international dark web market of all time worldwide”. The alleged administrators of the infamous Bohemia and Cannabia dark web marketplaces have been arrested after apparently shuttering the sites and trying to flee with their earnings. That’s why instruments for advertising, marketing, or promoting your services can encourage buyers and vendors alike.

On the same day, Bohemia Market's administrator, BohemiaNorth, shared a new "emergency link" on the Dread forum, accompanied by their PGP signature, authenticating the user, partially dispelling doubts among users. The dark web operates as a constantly shifting ecosystem, where new markets rise to replace those that have been taken down. While the takedown of Bohemia and Cannabia marks a major victory in the fight against dark web crime, it is unlikely to be the last such operation.
On November 19, Bohemia Market's administrator, Bohemia, posted a lengthy topic on the Dread forum titled "What's Happened vs What's Happening" which detailed that their lead developer had stolen users' bitcoins, leaving a significant hole they need to fill. He stated that he has been in contact with the administrators of Bohemia Market, and they have promised to release a "completely transparent announcement" on November 19. The administrator of the Dread forum speculated that their wallets have been emptied, and they are trying to salvage the situation by selectively allowing users with complaints to withdraw funds. It would explain the withdrawal issues and means that the market is processing withdrawals as and when deposits are made to try and recover over time. One of these was explained by /u/BohemiaNorth earlier today as being due to the vendor's pgp key expiring, I haven't confirmed whether that is true and its not the only report I've had of this happening.I can't personally call this an exit scam at this point in time, but the worries equate to similar situations in the past where a market has exited, so there are obvious reasons why someone would believe that to be the case.My own theory as to what has happened here, based on info I've received and the issues that we are seeing, is that there is a chance that the market's wallet was drained at some point due to a bug or similar. Subsequently, Dark Web Informer (@DarkWebInformer) released another tweet update, stating that although Bohemia Market is accessible again, some vendors and non-vendors are still encountering withdrawal issues with BTC and XMR.

Banned Products & Services
Somewhat unusually for the "mainstream" dark web markets, Archetyp allows the sale of fentanyl and analogous substances. In November 2023 one of the Bohemia administrators posted on the dark web forum Dread to explain this disruption, claiming it was due to the actions of a rogue developer. In this particular case with Bohemia, the event shocked everyone because the marketplace had a fairly good reputation. Without an escrow service, there would be no reason for market owners to leave out of nowhere. An exit scam occurs when the marketplace management simply disappears.

Apart from drugs, Bohemia also had a fair share of hackers offering various services. There were hundreds of vendors offering access to all kinds of drugs, many of them from different countries. If you hang around dark web markets or you keep an eye on the news, you might have seen some reports about the Bohemia marketplace. These platforms were known hubs for illegal drug trade and DDoS attack services, highlighting the ongoing battle against cybercrime in the digital underground.

Clearly, Bohemia is the darknet market that prioritizes security and privacy over quick access. Although law enforcement certainly have to play Whac-A-Mole with such sites, with new markets springing up as soon as established ones are closed, doing so makes it harder for buyers and sellers to build steady businesses. The site boasted some 500,000 users and facilitated around 320,000 transactions, reports the EU’s law enforcement agency, Europol, with clientele buying and selling everything from malware and stolen credit card information, to weapons and drugs.
